Helicopter crash

LITTLE DEER ISLE - Police responded to a helicopter crash off the coast of Little Deer Isle.

On August 1, at around 5 pm, troopers responded to a report of a helicopter crash off the coast of Little Deer Isle in Hancock County.

The initial investigation disclosed that a helicopter owned and piloted by Irvin Laidlaw of Monico was hovering at approximately 500 feet off the shoreline of Little Deer Isle when the pilot lost control. The helicopter spun out of control and crashed into the water.

The pilot and three passengers escaped with minor injuries. The helicopter which was a total loss was towed to shore nearby.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash. The U.S. Coast Guard and Marine Patrol Officers and Deer Isle Fire Department also responded to the scene.
